Abstract

It is an unresolved enigma, with which substances the oocyte’s nucleolus precursor body (NPB) contributes to the developing conceptus. A few years later, elegant studies in pig and mouse, where the oocyte’s NPB was removed (enucleolation) or even exchanged by micromanipulation, demonstrated that the NPB is completely essential for further embryonic development [1].
