Abstract

The history of breeding of beef cattle in the Czech Republic started in the 1990s. In total, 25 beef cattle breeds and their crosses are kept in the Czech Republic. Performances are regularly recorded since 1991, and breeding values are estimated since 2000. Currently, there are routinely estimated 24 breeding values merged into four groups – field test (calving traits and growth), the growth of bulls at a performance test station, type traits (muscling), and carcass traits (SEUROP). The aim of further research is to introduce genomic evaluation for beef cattle in The Czech Republic. Genotyping of beef cattle in The Czech Republic started at the end of the year 2018.
