Abstract

Hygiene of the breeding environment is one of the basic preventive measures during the rearing of young calves, an integral part of the principles of good breeding practice and biosecurity of farm. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of the use of powder disinfectant on performance indicators and health of calves. The live weight and health status were monitored in a total of 60 calves on one farm during three cycles. The single use of disinfectant during calf rearing led to a significant reduction in the incidence of diarrhea. In contrast, the effect of disinfection on the incidence of calf respiratory diseases or on performance indicators has not been proved.
