Abstract

Colostrum quality testing is the prerequisite of well-adjusted management of colostrum nutrition at dairy calves. Nowadays, Czech farmers routinely check the density of colostrum, but not so careful attention is paid to its microbiological quality. The aim of this study was to determine, what the microbiological parameters of colostrum after milking are in the Czech Republic (34 operations, 1062 samples). The mean total plate count (TPC) was 2,600,000 cfu/ml, total coliform count (TCC) 11,900 cfu/ml and total non-coliform count (TNCC) was 12,800 cfu/ml. Recommended industry standard of TPC of
