Abstract | The aim of the study was to incorporate claw disease and feed efficiency as possible breeding goals of the Holstein breed and to define the expected selection response in the current and in the new target traits. For both, current and new target traits, a desirable selection response (e.g., 70 kg of milk, -0.006 claw diseases and -0.002 kg of dry matter of feed, all expressed per cow and per year) was calculated. If these traits were also included among the selection criteria, the genetic gain of the new traits would slightly increase and economic gain in the current objectives would slightly decrease by -5%. |
