Abstract | The Breeding Value and Genomic Breeding Value of the milk performance of Holstein cattle on the first lactation was evaluated using a current Animal Model or by Single Step Prediction respectively. A total of 838 bulls were genotyped. Two overlapping sets were evaluated: calving years 1991 – 2004, and 1996 – 2009, both with aroud 750 thousands of lactations and 1.4 millions of animals in the pedigree. The older set comprised 526 genotyped bulls, among which 210 of them the milk performance of daughters was known. All genotyped animals were included in the newer set. Among the young genotyped bulls from the set till 2004, 279 had more than 50 daughters with performance records in the newer set. Genomic relationship with the pedigree relationship has correlation 0.74. Group of genotyped bulls exceeds in BV the average of the whole population for about 3 standard deviations. |
