Abstract | Females of polytocous (litter-bearing) mammals typically optimize parental investment by reducing litter size according to resource limitations during lactation. To determine whether this tactic is also influenced by resource limitations prior to conception, we exposed female mice (Mus musculus) to experimental food restriction (the intermittent feeding regime) during the week before pairing. |
