Abstract | An attempt with 18 high-yielding Holstein dairy cows was carried out to investigate effects of different feeding strategies during the dry period. Cows were divided into 2 groups (9 animals in each) which differed in feeding rations given from 21st day before expected calving: cows of the group K were given a classical feeding ration for dry-up cows with concentrate, whereas the group P were fed by the feeding ration lower in nutrients, above all energy, but higher in protein components. Cows of the group P had higher dry matter intake and milk yield than cows of the K group. These differences were statistically significant. It could be concluded the diet with large portion of wheat straw and proteins fed in cows from their 21st day before expected calving day may improve nutrient consumption and milk performance. |
