Abstract

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of feed restriction on performance and internal organ development in males and females of nutrias. At the beginning of the experiment at 2 months of age nutrias were divided into four groups, group 1 males and group 3 females fed ad libitum during the whole experiment till 8 months of age. Group 2 were males and group 4 females restricted in 3rd month of age (75 % of ad libitum). Before and after restriction period nutrias were fed ad libitum. At the end of restriction period, live weight decreased in males to 80 % and 86 % in females compared to nutrias fed ad libitum. Only restricted females showed compensatory growth in the realimentation period and their final live weight was 10 % higher than in the ad libitum fed ones. The results showed the significant interaction of feeding regime and age in the length of small intestine (P
