Abstract

The aim of the study was to detect basic information on the category of fattening bulls in farms of dairy cattle in the Czech Republic. The total number of monitored farms was 138 and 60.1 % of these farms fatten the bulls. Average number of bulls in the fattening station was 170 (farms of Czech Pied cattle (C breeds) 184 bulls, Holstein breed (H breeds) 145 bulls). Bulls purchased from other farms were fatted up in 10.8 % of monitored farms. The predominated housing of the fattening bulls was the rebuilt stalls (50.6 %) with 17.8 years of average age. The bulls in the Czech feedlots were housed in straw litter (96.4%), most often with deep litter (60.3%). The bulls during the fattening period were not weighed in 35 % of farms (C breeds – 24.5%, H breeds – 53.3%). The decisive criteria of fattening bulls for carrying to slaughter house were their age (47 %) and slaughter weight (28.9 %).
