Production of healthy and vital piglets is one of the prerequisites for successful pig breeding. For the growth and development of piglets, it is necessary to ensure appropriate conditions during the period of suckling period and subsequent rearing. The piglet digestive tract is adapted to digest the sow milk. Before weaning, the most important liquid food is milk consumed in regular intervals. The aim of the article is description of lactation period in terms of piglet nutrition, using dairy compound feeds and ways how to replace sows‘ milk.
