Abstrakt

At the commercial herd level a farmer can improve the genetic potential by a rational use of young – tested or old – proved bulls and by selection within the cow population. In some cases embryo transfer can also be used. Response to selection methods depends on selection intensity and on time between selection and the mo¬ment the higher production is observed. This is connected with the proportion of the genes originating from selected animals in different years of the period following the selection decision.
