Abstrakt

Hydrophobic sorbents of neutral sterols prepared by modification of polysaccharides represent a new class of hypolipidemic agents. Derivatives of pectin, oxidized monocarboxycellulose, carboxymethylcellulose and alginate were prepared by heterogenous amino-dealkoxylation using n-octadecylamine. Modified polysaccharides were examined in experiments with rats fed diets containing cholesterol and palm fat. This review presents the effects of amidated pectin, amidated celluloses and amidated alginate on serum and hepatic cholesterol, faecal excretion of neutral sterols, bile acids and fat.
