Biologist Helena Fulková in Iveta Toušlová’s TV show Geyser

„When Dolly the sheep, the first mammal to be cloned from an adult cell, was born almost a quarter century ago, it was a breakthrough. Today, cloning is used to produce police dogs, racehorses and, more recently, even pets, although it is a very controversial topic and many scientists clearly reject cloning. Czech scientist Helena Fulková is one of those who are looking for a deeper sense of cloning „, says Iveta Toušlová, the author and presenter of the show Geyser.

Helena Fulková belongs to a small group of world´s leading scientists who have successfully cloned mice. Last year, she performed a successful genetic modification in hamsters. She is a laureate of the prestigious Otto Wichterle Award 2015 and in 2016 she received the Neuron Award for Promising Young Scientists in Medicine from the Neuron Endowment Fund. Her research concerns the treatment of as yet incurable diseases and reproduction.
She travels the world for research and education. She lived and worked in a laboratory in Japan for several years. Then she decided to return to the Czech Republic. She works at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences and at the Biology of Reproduction Department of the Institute of Animal Science in Uhříněves.
