A Year of Challenges and Changes

2020 was the year of the COVID-19 pandemic and government imposed restrictions made it impossible to hold public events. Some planned events had to be cancelled, others took the form of webinars and videoconferences, some were postponed.

The TECHAGRO, SILVA REGINA and BIOMASA fairs where our research institute presents its activities traditionally will not be held until 2022. Most of the national and international conferences have been cancelled, project meetings have moved to the virtual environment. The restrictions also significantly affected research activities. A number of experiments had to be modified or carried out under limited conditions. But this difficult year can also be seen as an opportunity – much was done, much we have learned. It was a benefit for most of us to learn how to use new technologies in communication. However, face-to-face meetings are irreplaceable and, hopefully, 2021 will be better in this respect.
