Quality and safety meat of chicken fed with insect meal, limited feed intake and pasture

Project no. QK1910387
Category PROJEKTY NAZV / National Agency for Agricultural Research PROJECTS
ProviderMZE ČR
Description

Insect is a natural part of the diet of poultry reared in free range and is a rich source of protein, vitamins, minerals, unsaturated fatty acids, and antimicrobial peptides. In the form of meal, it could be added to poultry diet as an alternative to conventional components of feed mixtures, for example soybean meal or fish meal. The aim of the project is to comprehensively evaluate the effect of different modifications in chicken feeding (insect meal, pasture, limited feed intake and combinations of these factors) on meat quality, safety production and welfare of different meat-chicken genotypes. The quality of the meat will be assessed on the basis of physical indicators, muscle fiber representation, chemical analysis and sensory evaluation. In terms of complexity, monitoring of the effect on microbial colonization of the digestive tract of chickens will also be part of the project solution. The diversity of the overall microbiota will be determined by denaturing gradient electrophoresis and subsequent sequencing.
