Reproductive disorders in pigs - harmful substances in farms

Project no. QL24010123
Category PROJEKTY NAZV / National Agency for Agricultural Research PROJECTS
ProviderMZE ČR
Description

The aim of the project is to look for the first time into the burden of environmental pollutants in
some pig farms and the extent they can affect pig reproduction. The project will look for ways to
counteract the adverse effects of these pollutants. The project will focus on PFAS, among other
pollutants. These are abundant and extremely stable. The forthcoming significant restrictions on
these substances in EU countries will therefore not lead to their complete disappearance and the
impacts on animal and human health will persist for a long time to come. A first ‚probe‘ into pig
farming may reveal how significant a problem PFAS are in our conditions. At the same time, the
project will serve as a starting point for the elimination of sources of contamination in farms.
