The use of genomic data in horse breeding

Project no. QL25020022
Category PROJEKTY NAZV / National Agency for Agricultural Research PROJECTS
ProviderMZE ČR
Description

The aim of the project is to create the conditions for a smooth transition in genotyping methods and the application of SNP technology for estimating breeding values and verifying the parentage of horses. It seeks to integrate genomic data into the information system and into genetic/genomic evaluation systems for horses. The project aims to optimize the pre-analytical phase of SNP genotyping (development of sampling kits, utilization of residual and archival DNA sources) in the service laboratory. Additionally, it will develop methods for processing genomic data into a standardized format suitable for parentage verification. Genomic data will be utilized for the development of algorithms predicting genomic breeding values, identifying DNA loci affecting horse health and performance, and determining genetic differences at the DNA level between horse populations. The project will focus on the most numerous domestic horse populations, such as the Czech Warmblood, as well as other horse breeds.
