Chicken Welfare – Inclusion of Slow-Growing and Medium-Growing Chickens in Commercial Farming

Project no. QL26020052
Category PROJEKTY NAZV / National Agency for Agricultural Research PROJECTS
ProviderMZE ČR
Description

The project aims to map available genotypes of slower-growing chickens in Europe and evaluate their suitability for use in the Czech Republic. Six genotypes will be assessed in terms of growth performance, carcass yield, meat characteristics, and welfare status throughout the fattening period. Special attention will be paid to welfare indicators such as mortality rates, causes of death, and the occurrence of health disorders. Additionally, the project will analyze the economic aspects of meat production and propose optimal feeding strategies tailored to the specific needs of these genotypes. The final output will be methodological guidelines for farmers, including recommendations on nutrition, housing, stocking density, expected productivity, and tools for welfare evaluation.
