| Abstract | The use of antibiotics as growth simulators has been prohibited throughout the European Union (EU) since 2006. There is a similar restriction for zinc oxide, the legal limit of which has been regulated at 150 ppm since June 2022, according to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), this is the level that meets the physiological needs of animals for zinc. Medicinal doses of zinc oxide used to reduce the risk of post-weaning diarrhea are prohibited in weaned piglets (except in exceptional cases). Therefore, farmers are forced to look for other alternatives that can support healthy and prosperous pig farming. |
