Abstract

The presented methodology aims to define combined groups of foot and claw diseases and disorders for the estimation of breeding values for foot and claw diseases in Holstein cattle. For breeding, claw and foot disorders are often combined into groups: infectious, non-infectious and foot and claw diseases in total. Lameness is a symptom of the disease and is evaluated separately or together with foot and claw disorders. Based on the analysis, when the approximate genetic correlation between foot and claw diseases and lameness was a maximum of 0.48, we recommend evaluating lameness separately.
