Abstract

The functional sample was created within the research project of TAČR on the basis of cooperation of the Institute of Animal Science in Netluky and the company NutriVet, s.r.o. based in Pohořelice. It is a two-component silage preparation based on the fact that lactic acid bacteria quickly form lactic acid, which converts sodium nitrite (NaNO2) to nitrogen dioxide (NO2), which suppresses the growth of aerobic and facultatively aerobic microorganisms, especially unwanted clostridia, yeasts and fungi. When oxygen is no longer present in the silage, nitrite is reduced to nitrogen (N2), which then leaves the silage as a gas together with carbon dioxide (CO2).
