Abstract | Although ensuring good animal health is an aim of organic farming and one of key reasons why consumers purchase organic product, the level of health actually achieved is comparable to conventional farming. Implementation of outcome-oriented animal health requirements could help to improve the health in organic dairy herds. These standards are lacking in the current European legislation. They are neither introduced in the national legislation nor in the private programs of certification authorities in the Czech Republic. In some countries, certification and inspection bodies have enforced at least partial health limits that, in addition to improving animal health, also allow for increased competitiveness in the organic product market. |
