Economic aspects of the incidence of mastitis and claw diseases
For dairy cattle diseases (such as mastitis or claw disease), it is important to quantify the direct and indirect economic aspects of its occurrence in the herd. Both, the direct and the indirect effect on the farm economy is considered when the farm aspect of the disease is accounted. The correlation of the disease with the other production and reproduction traits is considered. For cattle breeding this relationship is not possible to take into account and the direct economic impact of disease on the farm economic (economic weights) is only cconsidered. The main reason is the need to avoid “double counting”.
