Abstract

Cattle numbers are increasing worldwide, which corresponds to the increasing population and the increase in demand for basic foods, which include milk and beef. Further growth and increasing the milk yield of dairy cows is also a prerequisite. However, a necessary condition is the economic advantage of production, which is fully influenced by internal and external factors. The main ones include purchase and entry prices, and the health animals also significantly affects the economy. Each disease results in a number of production or economic losses, which are manifested by a decrease in sales and an increase in costs. Among the main economically significant losses in dairy cattle herds can be included a decrease in milk production and thus a decrease in sales. In addition, an increase in costs can be expected, especially in the costs of veterinary services and medicines, disinfection and labor costs associated with a higher need for work. Another consequence of the disease is poorer cow fertility and higher herd turnover. In order to achieve excellent economic results, excellent results in production, reproduction, etc. are necessary. Therefore, part of the work of management should be the monitoring and evaluation of indicators and their comparison over time and between farms of the same production focus. For the evaluation of efficiency, it is appropriate to assess, among other things, the income over feed costs (IOFC) indicator.
