Abstract | Achieving a reasonable profit from milk production in the long term is a necessary condition for maintaining the current number of dairy cows and ensuring the Czech Republic’s continued self-sufficiency in milk production. The aim of the paper is to evaluate the economics of dairy farms for the year 2021. Data for the calculations were obtained by the questionnaire method from 120 dairy farms. The obtained data supplemented the long-standing database of production and economic indicators of dairy farms. Total costs, costs after deduction, profit without subsidies were calculated as well as break-even point and the indicator of income over feed costs (IOFC). The results showed that, on average, for the dairy operations analysed, the cost after deductions increased by 5.9% per cow per year, reaching a level of 83 779 CZK per cow per year, i.e. 9.42 CZK per litre of milk sold. On average, a loss was suffered in 2021 without subsidies (0.34 CZK per litre). Considerable differences in average costs and thus in profitability can be seen between groups of farms according to, among other things, the breed and milk yield achieved. |
