Abstract | The aim of the present study was to evaluate genetic variability at the CD14 locus in dairy goats 9 residing in the Czech Republic. The cluster of differentiation 14 (CD14) gene is involved in innate 10 immunity and has been identified as one of the candidate gene for disease resistance. CD14 acts 11 as a receptor for both lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and peptidoglycan, two of the most abundant 12 constituents in the bacterial cell wall. CD14 functions as a receptor for the bacterial endotoxin, 13 LPS. The goat CD14 locus is over 1.12 kb in size. A protocol for rapid, efficient simultaneous 14 typing of CD14 variants using the primer extension analysis (PEA), specifically – SNaPshot was 15 developed. A total of 463 animals (White shorthaired, WSH = 358, Brown shorthaired goat BSH 16 = 30 and crossbreed, C-B = 75) were typed. |
