Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the level of surface microbial contamination of teats after treatment by using two different disinfectants (A – based on lactic acid, B – based on chlorhexidine gluconate and isopropyl alcohol). The total bacteria count (TBC), total coliform count (TCC) and the total Escherichia coli count (E. coli) were assessed in individual swaps from teats in accordance with ISO standards. The observed data was evaluated by the Statistica software. There were detected significantly higher the total bacteria count and the total E. coli count on the surface of the teat treated with disinfectant B than on the surface of the of teats treated with disinfectant A. According the obtained data it is possible to tell that a significantly higher microbial contamination has been proved on the surface of teats after treatment of disinfectant B.
