Abstract

This text involves the results of research on suckling behaviour in zebras kept at Dvůr Králové Zoo. In behavioural ecology, the suckling behaviour represents an important tool for studying parent-offspring conflict theory. The variability in suckling behaviour based on different sex of foals was found. Therefore, various explanations of this variability are discussed. In addition, the description of suckling behaviour in plains zebra is included.
