Abstract | Maize is normally an easily silage crop. The silage of maize decreases not only by harvesting in the unsuitable vegetation phase or when the dry matter content is too high or too low, but also with the increasing amount of ash, which has a buffering effect. This is also one of the causes of impaired aerobic stability, which can be predicted, determined and evaluated. Depending on the result, appropriate measures can be taken to prolong the aerobic stability of the silage and thus to keep the losses of dry matter and nutrients to a minimum. |
