Abstract | The aim of research was to determine the effect of using selected biological and chemical silage additives in maize silage with high dry matter content (46.7%), neutral detergent fiber (57.5% of dry matter) and a lower starch content (29.5% dry matter). All silage additives (biological and chemical) contributed to reduce pH, compared to control silage without preservative. Titratable acidity, compared to the control, was significantly higher in all silages preserved chemical products and in the Formasil Maize (L. buchneri and P. pentosaceus). While aerobic stability of the silage with no preservative was on average 107 hours, silage combined hetero and homo fermentative silage product was 142 hours and a chemical agent comprising sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate and sodium nitrite, more than 170 hours. |
