Abstract

Protein supplements are indispensable components of high-yielding dairy cows diets. Feeding of ruminants by animal protein and fish meal was prohibited in European Union in consequence of BSE illness expansion for cattle. These restrictions eliminated proven protein feeds from animal origin. Their advantage was lower degradability, which guaranteed sufficiently input to small intestine. Attention was therefore aimed mainly on plant protein sources. Lupine presents suitable feed due to significant protein and fat contents with high proportion of desired unsaturated fatty acids.
