Abstract

The work is focused on the importance of nutrition to influence the function of the intestinal microbiome as an important part of the strategy of reducing the consumption of antimicrobials in livestock. It is based on an analysis of our and foreign professional literary sources (PubMed) and especially on the practical experience of the authors. Nutrition, not only in terms of quantity, i.e. the provision of a sufficient amount of feed but especially in terms of quality, is of great importance for the susceptibility of animals to infectious diseases. Due to the increased risk of spreading antimicrobial resistance in the case of excessive use of antibiotics, the possibility of supplementing feed rations with herbal mixtures and extracts, prebiotics, probiotics, synbiotics and immunomodulators as part of disease prevention is becoming more important.
