Abstract

The fertility of the boar is influenced by a number of influences, such as the environment in which the boar is housed, treatment and feeding, the season, intensity of use, genetic establishment and age, and many others. The intensity of use of boars from insemination stations is much higher than boars in natural breeding; therefore, their selection and treatment should be given great attention. Proper treatment, nutrition and housing of boars affect the fertility of the entire herd of sows. Each boar used to produce insemination doses leaves many more offspring than a boar in natural breeding. Therefore, it is necessary to select suitable boars for insemination with excellent reproductive and production characteristics. The article describes the basic requirements for breeding and nutrition of boars in order to achieve maximum reproductive performance.
