Abstract

In recent years, there has been considerable progress in pig breeding in the number of piglets born and weaned per sow. The sow’s ability to provide enough nutrients to the fetus during pregnancy, to produce enough milk for numerous litters and to get pregnant as soon as possible after weaning is an important indicator of successful reproduction. Increasing reproductive performance therefore means higher demands on the nutrition of sows. The nutrition of sows in this period is focused on restoring the body reserves exhausted during the suckling of piglets and on preparing for the next pregnancy.
