Abstract

Sheep farming has a long tradition in the Czech Republic. At present, sheep farming in our territory is mainly focused on the production of lamb. In recent years, sheep numbers have been declining, yet there are higher demands on meat quality, reproduction, average daily gain, and much more. This work aimed to evaluate the meat yield of meat breeds of sheep, namely the Suffolk and Charollais breeds, in selected breeding. In the suffolk breed, a higher weight gain was found but a lower fat content in the charollais breed.
