Abstract

Milk and milk products are nutritious food items containing numerous essential nutrients. But in the western societies the consumption of milk has decreased partly due to claimed negative health effects. There are even some fears associated with content of hormones in cow milk. However, in comparison to the human daily production of steroid hormones the nutritional supply of these hormones with cow milk and milk products is insignificant. On the other hand, endocrine disruptors, i.e. exogenous chemicals that can interfere with endocrine systems at certain doses, pose significant risks for human health and these risks are heavily underestimated.
