Abstract

We conducted this study to evaluate the effect of lupin seeds (Lupinus albus, cv. Amiga) as a substitute for extracted soybean meal in a diet of fattening pigs. For the experiment, 44 pigs of hybrid combination (BUxL) x (BOxPn) were divided into two well balanced groups, 22 pigs in each group. The control group was fed on the commercial mixtures of series A. The pigs from the experimental group up to 65 kg of body weight were fed on the mixture with 23% substitution of lupine and the pigs above 65 kg of body weight to the slaughter with 15% part of lupine. The monitored traits were: average daily body weight gain, feed conversion, health status, carcass characteristics, nutritional and technological characteristics of pig meat and sensory parameters of meat. There were recorded lower content of fat in meat, higher weight of the main meaty parts and 8,1% higher water binding capacity in meat in the experimental group compared with the control group.
