From 2007 until October 2009 the average price of milk per 100 kg in 16 Western European dairies was 31.17 Euros (100 %), in Germany and Austria 31.51 and 32.76 Euros (101 % and 105 %) and in the Czech Republic 28.57 Euros (92 %). This situation, together with lower direct payments points to a worsening economic situation for Czech breeders, in this crisis period, in comparison to their partners in the EC-15. Regardless of the probable ending of the milk crisis it appears necessary to negotiate and implement the rules of the Common Agricultural Policy in all EC states.
