Abstract

Hemp seed has the potential to reduce the risk of fractures in laying hens, which will arise during the transition from cage to floor systems due to the ban of breeding of hens in enriched cages from 2027. For hens, a mixed feed with 40 g/kg of hemp and 60 g/kg of flaxseed can be recommended. Also in chickens, it is most appropriate to include the same amount of hemp and flaxseed in the diet as in hens. This combination will improve the performance of the chickens, the quality of the meat and bones and the storage of α-tocopherol in the liver.
