Abstract | The aim of the study was to update the current reproductive index (Rl) of dam pig breeds included in the national program CzePig. The current level of genetic parameters of the evaluated population, optimal selection response, new composition of CPH and different level of economic weights of traits (with stable and deteriorated farm profitability) were considered. In the current Rl, positive selection gain is achieved in the number of piglets born alive (on average +0.189 NBA) with a slight extension of the farrowing interval (+0.006 days Fl). Optimization of the Rl construction and its modification according to the CPH index would improve the genetic gain for both traits (+0.195 TNB and -0.030 Fl) while maintaining the reliability of selection. The selection response change was there based on the increase of selection pressure on the TNB and MD at the expense of other traits included in Rl. This change in the Rl construction would be valid even in the čase of deteriorated economic conditions of farms, and Rl would be suitable in the long-term period. In addition, the modification of the Rl in accordance with the current CPH would be beneficial for breeders from a practical point of view due to selection for the reproductive traits included both in Rl and in the CPH index would be provided with the same intensity. |
