Abstract

The aim of this methodology is to propose a new method of genetic evaluation of longevity based on linear model with random regression. In Czech Republic, the proposed procedure could gradually replace routinely used method of estimation of the breeding value for longevity based on nonlinear regression method, survival analysis. The basic advantage of the proposed procedure is that is based on linear model. Animal linear models are used for genetic evaluation for most of production, reproduction and functional traits in Czech dairy cattle. Linear estimation allows multi-trait estimation of breeding values for longevity and other traits and, at the same time, directly to estimate the genetic correlations between them. At the same time, it would be possible to use a genomic method of genetic evaluation for longevity based on a one-step method, as is already used in the breeding value estimation of production traits. The proposed procedure should be tested under the conditions of routine estimation of the longevity by comparing with the official estimates for Holstein cattle in Czech Republic.
