Abstract

The aim of the article is to provide information and a new insight into future rabbit feeding. The agricultural sector, especially the production of food of animal origin, is facing concerns regarding the environment, resource availability, and competition between food, feed, and biofuel production. There are different possibilities for tackling the above-mentioned issues, among which the substantial use of agro-food by-products for animal feed can play an important role. In this respect, farmed rabbits can serve as an ideal example of using feeds based entirely on agro-food by-products. This new concept of farmed rabbit nutrition is currently being tested in our project, and some encouraging results concerning this innovative nutritional approach are presented in this article.
