Abstract

Healthy cows stand on their feet 10 to 12 hours a day. Therefore every farmer should be particular about floors in walking alleys in stalls and outside them to be quality and properly maintained. Requirements for solid floors as concrete surface quality, concrete class – composition etc. are listed in this paper. The correct floor grooving (profiling) is greatly emphasized (to eliminate cow’s falls, theoretic retention volume assessment and so on). The optimal groove depth is 10 to 20 mm and the distance between grooves 80 to 100 mm for adult cows. The special part of this paper deals with the use of mattresses in walking alleys for cows. We can find many advantages of mattresses use, such as increased speed of cow movement, step length and other.
