Abstract | The aim of the study was to compare three different housing systems in terms of the growth and occurrence of diseases, and the welfare of calves. The two-year study was performed on 48 calves housed individually, 48 calves in pairs, and 24 calves in groups of four. Monitored indicators during the experiment were the growth, the starter intake, the occurrence of diarrhoea and respiratory diseases, the first occurrence of the disease, the duration of illness, and the causative agent of diarrhoea.
