Natural sources of carotenoids in feed mixtures for hens

The operational verification of the research results confirmed the positive effect of the addition of marigold flower extract into feed mixtures on the lutein and zeaxanthin concentration in egg yolk in order to produce a functional food. Marigold flower extract in form of Avizant Yellow 20 HS added into the diet for hens in amount of 350 mg/kg will provide a coloring of the egg yolk at level 8 of the DSM scale. Red pepper powder is not a suitable source of lutein and zeaxanthin for the production of eggs with an increased content of these carotenoids.
