Abstract

Milk production is an important area of the Czech agrarian sector. Economic profitability, which is influenced by a number of internal and external factors, is necessary for maintaining and future self-sufficiency in milk production in a long-term perspective. The aim of the paper was to analyze the economic indicators of milk production in the Czech Republic in 2018 based on the cost survey of milk production performed in 113 dairy farms. Total costs in 2018 were 76.5 thousand CZK per cow and year and 9.02 CZK per liter of milk, which represented a year-on-year increase of 3 thousand and 0.12 CZK, respectively. With an average milk price of 8.65 CZK per liter, after deduction of secondary outputs and including the subsidies received, the average profitability of milk production recorded in the representative set of dairy farms was 10.7%. In the future, to ensure adequate profitability, the growth in revenues will also have to be matched to the annual cost increase.
