Abstract

The yearbook provides a comprehensive overview of the main results and indicators in cattle breeding in 2020 and points out the main trends in this important sector in the last few years. In 2020 affected most sectors of the national economy, including agricultural sector impact of the global coronavirus pandemic. In cattle breeding in this difficult year, there was no major change in the number of main categories of cattle, year on year milk production increased, but the lower purchase price of milk compared to the previous year had a negative impact on economy of production. Year on year prices of cattle for slaughter were also lower. Without an adequate level of profitability, it is not possible from a long-term perspective to maintain current production and ensure permanent self-sufficiency in milk and beef production in the Czech Republic. Even in 2020, milk and cream and live cattle were an important part of agricultural commodity exports and conversely higher imports over exports in the Czech Republic were not only in 2020 for dairy products and beef.
