Abstract

The aim of the study was to compare white lupine seeds (LW) and blue lupine seeds (LB) as the crude protein (CP) source for a lactation (LLW diet or LLB diet) and weaning diet (WLW diet or WLB diet) in broiler rabbits. A total of 32 Hyplus does (16/treatment) were fed one of the two lactation diets. The litters were standardized to 9 kits on the day of birth. After weaning (at d 32 of age) 10 litters (90 rabbits/group) of each group of does were fed one of the two weaning diets until 74 days of age. Performance of does and their litters before and after weaning was not affected by the dietary treatment. There was a higher sanitary risk index (sum of dead + morbid animals) in rabbits fed the WLB diet than in those fed the WLW diet in the first 3 weeks (P = 0.018), as well as for the entire fattening period (P = 0.052). For this reason, blue lupine seeds would be not suitable as the CP source for rabbit’s weaning diets.
