Abstract

The aim of the experiment was to assess the effect of selected silage additives on the quality of fermentation and aerobic stability of corn silage. In the case of silage with an additive containing L. buchneri in addition to Lactobacillus plantarum, the ratio of lactic acid to volatile fatty acids was reduced from 0.6 to 0.56 compared to the control without silage additive. However, due to lower silage weight losses caused by aerobic degradation (5.4%), were the total losses lower (11.6%) contrary to the control (13%). The lowest total weight losses (between 9 and 10%) were found for silages with additives consisting of several salts. The use of biological, chemical or combined silage additives did not significantly improve the quality indicators of the fermentation result compared to control silage without additive.
